190th EAAE seminar: Financing sustainable and resilient transitions in agri & food systems

The seminar  is organized by Social Sciences Group Wageningen University & Research. It covers conceptual contributions and empirical studies on the potential and challenges for financing sustainable and resilient development of agri & food systems. The following provides a non-exhaustive list of topics that can be covered: Financial market instruments for sustainable development; ESG performance and risk assessments to inform finance and insurance decisions; Impact loans for agriculture; Alternative finance for sustainable and resilient transition of agriculture; Role of banks, equity investors and (re)insurers in sustainable & resilient development; Protecting biodiversity using financial instruments; Green and sustainability linked bonds; The role of ESG performance in financing agribusiness. 5 October 2024: Deadline submission of extended abstract. Hellenic Association on Information and Communication Technologies in Agriculture, Food & Environment (HAICTA): ICT in Agriculture, Food & Environment
HAICTA 2024 aims to bring together professionals, experts and researchers working on Agriculture, Food and Environment, emphasizing on the applicability of ICT solutions and innovations to real industry cases addressing modern challenges. The HAICTA 2024 Doctoral Consortium provides doctoral students with an opportunity to have substantive interaction with other young and more experienced researchers regarding their proposed PhD research. German Association for East European Studies (DGO) & Freie Universität Berlin: Congress of Central and East European Studies (ceecon24)

ceecon provides the international research community with an important venue for exchanging and discussing the latest research findings on the region. The congress spotlights scholarly work on the Baltic States, Central and Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia. Academic exchange on topics relevant to all scholars in the field will take place in plenary sessions. Seven parallel sections willaddress research questions concerning a broad variety of topics and methodological approaches. 64th GEWISOLA conference: Innovative concepts for a sustainable agricultural and food economy

The conference will take place at the Justus Liebig University (JLU) Giessen. Innovations play a major role on the path to more sustainable agri-food systems. To meet the challenges of environmental and resource protection as well as the preservation of biodiversity, viable concepts are needed that help to build a more resilient agri-food system in times of climate change and other man-made crises. 189th Seminar of the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE): EU enlargement by (post-)war Ukraine: Implications for the Agri-Food Markets

Organized by Warsaw University of Life Sciences – SGGW, the Poznan University of Life Sciences, Kyiv School of Economics and the Thϋnen Institute, this seminar  intends to bring a broad range of research disciplines together to discuss the effects of the Russian war against Ukraine on the agricultural sector in Ukraine, the EU, and non-EU countries. Further, the seminar aims at discussing the results of the scenario analyses of the economic impact of a further integration of Ukraine into European agri-food markets. Interested persons are invited to submit an extended abstract of maximum 2 pages (about 500 words) in English by April 15, 2024 via conftool. For selected abstracts, it will also be possible to contribute a paper for the Special Issue in “Problems of Agricultural Economics”. 188th EAAE Seminar: Reorienting Agri-food Chains to Hinder Climate Change and Food Security Treats

The seminar will be held in Chania, Crete (Greece). The EAAE seminar’s objectives are to bring together scholars and researchers in the field, as well as stakeholders from supply chains and businesses, that will exchange ideas, practices and research initiatives that cover most of the current food systems, biodiversity and agri-food chain developments for assisting policy-making decisions in agriculture and the agri-food industry. In particular, the Seminar aspires to create a forum for the promotion of food systems’ resilience through biodiverse supply chains in the global agri-food sector. Therefore, both empirical and methodological research papers are equally welcome. More info here.

Austrian Economic Association (NOeG) 2024: Transition to a Low Carbon Economy Congress

The annual conference aims to discuss the economic consequences, challenges and potential pathways of our transition to a low carbon economy. The organizers invite submissions on this topic as well as from all areas of economics including macroeconomics, economic development and growth, environmental and ecological economics, resource and agriculture economics, labor and demographic economics, microeconomics and industrial organization, urban and regional economics, etc. Submission of full papers on the conference topic as well as all other fields of economics to be submitted until May 8, 2024, via https://www.conftool.net/noeg2024/.

32nd International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE): Transformation Towards Sustainable Agri-Food Systems

ICAE  is take place  in New Delhi, India and will address urgent questions on how to make agri-food food systems more sustainable with a particular focus on the important role of agricultural economists in facing these interdisciplinary challenges. All submissions will be due on 15 January 2024 via the online submission system, which will be opened in August 2023. Submissions for the IAAE 2024 Carl K. Eicher Award for the best dissertation on agricultural economics problems in Africa are also invited. Updates will be available here.

International Food and Agribusiness Management Association (IFAMA): Food Security through Innovation & Sustainability

The Academic Symposium provides the intellectual foundation and scientific creditability for the discussions that will follow during the Business Forum. Scholars are invited to submit novel proposals concerning the future of food and farming related to technology, environment, disruptors, and health. Extended abstracts and full papers are due no later than 29 January, 2024. Authors submitting quality and novel research will be invited to publish their papers in the International Food and Agribusiness Management Review. 187th EAAE Seminar: Food System Transformation - Role of Research

Takes places at the Conference Centre of the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL in Frick, Switzerland. During the EAAE Seminar, we want to offer a platform to reflect the recent contributions of social science to as well as the role of social sciences in this transformation process. Furthermore, an opportunity is given to exchange on the potentials and limitations of different research approaches. The seminar covers theoretical contributions as well as empirical quantitative and qualitative analyses, both on the meta level reflecting the role of research as well as research on more sustainable food systems. ICABR Conference 2024: Innovation, Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability of the Bioeconomy

The ICABR-2024 Conference is scheduled for June 11-14, 2024 in Ravello.  The 2024 ICABR conference is seeking abstracts for papers that address how economic sustainability benefits from innovations enhance productivity. Abstracts addressing the key themes highlighted are invited for submission. Submission deadline is 30 November 2023. More info available here.

10th EAAE PhD Workshop Budapest 2024

The PhD workshop in Budapest welcomes PhD students at any stage of their PhD, as well as students who just completed their PhD at the time of the workshop. Both scientific program and themes will be defined in more details in the next months by the Scientific Committee. The workshop accepts two different types of submissions:  “finished papers” and  “paper proposals”. Deadline for all contributions is 15 January 2024. More infos available here.

The 98th Annual Conference of The Agricultural Economics Society

The conference will be held at the University of Edinburgh, UK. It features a Keynote Address (speaker TBC) on the food system and how current crises and risks threaten food security and a Plenary Session on the triptych of global agriculture by Prof. Spiro Stefanou (USDA – ERS) and Prof. Bob Chambers (University of Maryland). Dr Yann de Mey (Wageningen University) will give a masterclass on Analyzing risk in agriculture: An overview of defining, measuring, and characterizing farm-level risk exposure. The Agricultural Economics Society explicitly intends to support early-career researchers by awarding a prize for the best presentation by a PhD student in the contributed paper sessions and two best poster prizes for early-career researchers. 186th EAAE seminar ‘System Dynamcis and Innovation in Food Networks’ 2024

The seminar will be held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Its focus is on the analysis of the food system dynamics and interdependencies; the identification of drivers for sustainable system dynamics in the decision sphere of the system actors (e.g. chain management, consumers, agencies, policy, ets.); and on the identification and promotion of potential system innovations.
